SUMMARY:[Seminar] 11am TODAY: Yann Riche - PeerCare and Technology Probes

DESCRIPTION:[Seminar] 11am TODAY: Yann Riche - PeerCare and Technology
Probes to explore dynamics of seniors' social networks \n \nRm123\,
  School of Information Technolgies Building \n \nHi all\, \n \nYann
Riche\, PhD from UQ and University of Paris XI/ INRIA will come on
monday to talk about HCI and Infovis for seniors (20 min talk + 40 min
or \nmore discussion). You are welcome to attend and participate. \n
\nIt will be held Monday\, July 31 in room 123 of the School of
Information Technolgies building\, University of Sydney at 11am
(repeated at 2pm at nicta ATP lab in the VIAR Room (bay 15\,level2\,
  south-pod)). \n \nCheers. \nNathalie. \n \nAbstract: \n \nTechnology
Probes is a novel methodology that allows researchers and designers to
co-design technology with users. A technology probe is a rough but
functional implementation of a design idea. It is deployed in the real
life context of users in order to observe and measure how they interact
with it. Technology probes also provide a mean to automatically collect
data about interaction with the rough implementation. \n \nIn the
PeerCare project\, we are using technology probes to design
communication devices for seniors to share awareness with their friends.
One key aspect that we would like to explore is the dynamics of the
communication within the social network over time (both short term and
long term). \n \nThis talk will first describe the ongoing PeerCare
project that uses technology probes. I will then explain technology
probes in more detail and I would like to finish by discussing different
aspects and ideas for visualising dynamic social networks to support
  their analysis. \n \nYann Riche :

SUMMARY:Tim Tam Tuesdays at 3pm
DESCRIPTION:Believe it or not\, it's Tuesday. And that means just one
thing. Well.. \nactually it probably means a bunch of things (depending
who you are). \nLike\, it might be the only day you bother getting the
paper because it \nhas the IT section. If you are Greek\, Tuesday is
meant to be unlucky. If \nyou are French\, Tuesday is sometimes fat. If
you are American\, you might \nbe having an election. However\, if you
are getting this email\, it means \nyou are having Tim Tams. That's
because (in case you hadn't guessed by \nthe subject) it's Tim Tam
Tuesday. \n \nSo join us. For Tim Tams. At 3pm. Tuesdays. In the
  kitchen. \n \nTIM TAM TUESDAY \n \nDescription: \n If you are getting
this email\, then you are hereby and henceforth \ninvited to Tim Tam
Tuesdays. \n \nTim Tam Tuesdays is an event steeped in tradition\, but
lacking any kind of \nceremony. We go down to the kitchen (room 125)\,
we eat Tim Tams\, we chat\, \nand that's about it. But if you want a
chance to meet your fellow postgrad \nand honours victims\, this is it!
It even comes with the added bonus of some \ngooey chocolaty biscuity
  goodness. \n \n--- \n \nThe School of Information Technologies
Postgraduate Society (SOCIT) was \nestablished in August 2002 as a club
representing the social interests of \npostgrad students within the
department. Since starting we have organised a \nnumber of events
including: \n \n- Movie and Pizza nights \n- Gaming nights \n- Instant
icecream parties \n- The ever popular Tim Tam tuesday afternoon get
togethers \n \nWe aim to have fun but the serious side of SOCIT is that
the friendships \npostgrads form may turn into research collaborations
or professional \nrelationships later on. Notifications of events are
sent out on the \nsocit_list mailing list.
